Catawba Regional Hospice premiered its Service Before Self Award on May 4, 2016, naming Keith Berry as its first recipient.
The Service Before Self Award recognizes exemplary employees who consistently excel in their roles while demonstrating personal integrity and a strong commitment to customer service and patient care. The award was implemented as a natural extension of CRH's service standards and seeks to promote greatness, reward innovative thinking, and actively grow employee roles within the organization.
Berry, a hospice nurse for more than 15 years, was a native of Burke County and a resident of Rutherford College, NC. Prior to his second career in health care, Berry co-owned and operated Childers Market for 20 years. Applauded often for his patient advocacy, Berry was a beloved nurse and valued colleague who worked tirelessly to ensure that those he cared for were provided exceptional quality of life.
Berry's wife, Cathy, accepted the award in his memory. He passed away in November 2015 following a period of declining health.
