Longest Drive Hitters to Compete in Newton

On Saturday, September 17, Catawba Country Club in Newton, NC, will host the US Long Drive Tour Championship, sponsored by Rockwell.

Known as the ‘Home Run Derby of Golf,’ this free public event starts at 11am and features a variety of world champion long drive competitors.

Among the hitters slated to attend are Tim Burke, current and two-time world champion; Will Hogue, #1-ranked hitter in the world; and Catawba County resident Trent Scruggs, ranked 5th in the world.

The format consists of two groups of 16 with a point system. The top eight hitters from each group will move into double elimination match play. The top two of each group will get a two round bye. Third- and fourth-place hitters in each group will get a one round bye. Eight hitters (four matches) will start round 1; single match, not best 2 of 3.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Catawba Regional Hospice, a community-based health care organization dedicated to helping individuals and their families face the challenges of advanced illness.
