Alice’s Story

 Alice’s Passion to Help Others

Originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, Alice moved to Newton, North Carolina in 2006 to finish out her career in retail sales at International Paper, one of the world’s leading fiber-based packaging producers.

Following retirement, she had a strong desire to give back. After developing a relationship with Carolina Caring staff when her mother passed years earlier she found an opportunity to volunteer alongside them to help support patients and families as their loved ones became seriously ill.

Alice remembers her mother’s involvement in so many community organizations and her devotion to cooking and helping others at her local church. This inspired Alice to follow her example and dedicate herself to making a difference in the lives of others.

“During my many years as a volunteer at Carolina Caring I have had so many opportunities to help patient and families,” says Alice. “Since I experienced the benefits of Carolina Caring’s nurturing environment first-hand, I understand the value of being there to listen and care for patients and families during what can be a very difficult part of their journey.”

As Alice continues to volunteer at the Front Desk of the Catawba Valley Hospice House, Carolina Caring’s inpatient facility in Newton, she encourages others to bring their various gifts and talents and find the best way to contribute.
